How to configure a content group map

Overview

Content groups can display their content on an interactive map, helping guests locate and explore places, facilities, services, and other points of interest.

From the Map configuration tab, you can customize the area displayed on the map, configure zoom and rotation, enable directions, and add markers for the hotel and the guest's room.

This article explains how to configure the map displayed in a content group.

Before getting started

Before configuring the map, make sure:

Step-by-step guide

Step 1: Access the map settings

  1. In the CMS, go to Content > Other > Content groups.
  2. Find the content group you want to configure and click Edit.
  3. Go to the Map configuration tab.

Step 2: Configure the map view

In the Map view configuration section, define the area that will be displayed when guests open the map.

  1. If needed, activate Set coordinates of mobile map focus and enter the coordinates that define the map area on mobile devices:
    • NE latitude
    • NE longitude
    • SW latitude
    • SW longitude
  2. If needed, activate Set coordinates of web app map focus and enter the coordinates that define the area you want to display on the web app.
  3. If you want to use your own map design, activate Use a custom map image to display a custom image overlaid on top of Google Maps.

The NE (northeast) and SW (southwest) coordinates define the boundaries of the area initially displayed on the map.

Tip: Choose a map view that makes it easy for guests to identify the main area covered by the content group.

Step 3: Configure the map zoom level

In the Map zoom level section, configure how far guests can zoom in and out of the map.

  1. Set the default and maximum zoom level for:
    • Android
    • iOS/Web
  2. Activate Allow map rotation if you want guests to be able to rotate the map.

Step 4: Configure directions to map points

In the Show directions to each point section, choose how guests can get directions to the points displayed on the map.

Select one of the following options:

  • In app: Displays walking directions to the selected point directly inside the guest app.
  • In Google or Apple Maps: Opens an external map app to show directions to the selected point.

Then select the platforms where directions will be available:

  • Android/Web
  • iOS

Step 5: Configure hotel map markers

In the Hotel map markers section, choose which property-related markers you want to display. You can activate one or both options:

  • Display hotel marker: Displays the hotel's position on the map. Select the icon you want to use for this marker.
  • Display My room marker: Displays the guest's room on the map. Select the icon you want to use for this marker.

Step 6: Review the content displayed on the map

Check that the relevant content appears in the correct location.

The map uses the location information configured for each content item. If an item does not appear where expected, review its location settings in the corresponding CMS section. For more information, see Step 6 in How to create a service.

Step 7: Save the configuration

Once you have finished configuring the map:

  1. Review the map settings.
  2. Click Save changes.

Next steps

Once the map is configured, you can continue setting up the content group:
