How to create a service
Overview
A service is the specific offering guests interact within the guest app. Depending on the feature you are configuring, a service could be a restaurant, a spa, a room service, a pool, or a shop.
This article walks you through the process of adding and configuring any service in the CMS, allowing you to display details, images, and additional information so guests can easily understand what the service offers.
Before getting started
Before creating a service, ensure you have the following ready:
- You must have access to the Content section of the CMS.
- Basic information about the service ready: name, description, opening hours, etc.
- If your guest app is available in multiple languages, prepare translated versions of your texts.
- High quality mages of what is offered in the service. images should be in landscape format (800 x 420 pixels) and must not exceed 1 MB. (Note: These are introductory images for the service, not the specific product images for catalogs).
Step-by-step guide
Step 1: Create a service
- Navigate to the Content section of the CMS.
- Select the desired feature from the left-side menu.
- Click Add (top right corner).
- Choose between using a template or creating a service from scratch:
- Templates include a default name, tag, and image. Select a template and click Save to start editing.
- Create from scratch by clicking Create a new service in the upper-right corner.
- If a template was selected, click Edit on the desired service to continue editing.
Step 2: Fill in the service information
- Name: Enter the service name. Keep it under 30 characters to ensure it fits on one line on most devices.
- Subtitle: Add a short tagline to describe the service. Keep it under 45 characters so it fits on one or two lines.
- Description: Provide a detailed overview, including the atmosphere, unique offerings, and what guests can expect from the service.
- If the service serves guests in multiple languages, click the flag icon to add translations.
Step 3: Upload images of the service
If the service was created using a template, it will already include a preloaded image.
Make sure image files do not exceed 1 MB. The recommended dimensions are 800 x 420 pixels (landscape format). The first image uploaded will be the cover image of the service.
To upload an image:
- Click the image icon to open the upload window.
- Drag and drop images or select them from the computer.
- Click Insert, then Save changes.
To delete an image:
- Hover over the image and click the trash icon.
- Click Save changes to confirm.
The following steps are optional and can be edited later.
Step 4: Include additional information about the service
Additional details help guests understand unique information of the service. Click Add additional info and select the options that apply:
- Title and description: This adds two text boxes (title and subtitle) and an icon to be customized as needed. This information can also be linked to an existing service by ticking the Link to service checkbox.
- Bullet list: This provides a list of items to customize as needed. It can be used to highlight key points of the service.
- Dress code: This option provides a default text box and an icon to inform guests of any attire requirements. Just fill in the text box under the title.
- Location description: Use this option to provide directions to find the service (e.g., floor number or building name).
- Video URL: To share audiovisual content with guests, this option provides a default link box with an icon and title.
- Website: Add the website of the service.
- E-mail: Use this field to include a contact e-mail for guests. When tapping on the email address from the guest app, the email client will open automatically.
- Phone number: This option allows including a phone number. When guests tap on it, the number will be dialed on the phone. Add the country code to the phone number since guests might not have a local phone line.
- YouTube: A YouTube link can be included to provide audiovisual content. If the link should open in a browser, tick the box Open YouTube in browser.
- Virtual tour: This option provides a preset field to include a link to a virtual tour of the facilities.
- URL list: In case several links of interest need to be provided to guests, use this preset option. Websites that cannot be embedded must have the Open URL in browser checkbox selected.
Note: some of these fields may not apply to all features (for example, dress code or map location are not usually required for Amenities).
To remove any additional info item, click on the trash icon next to it or:
- Click Additional info.
- Click on the items to be removed. They will change color when clicked.
- Close the pop-up window and click Save changes.
Step 5: Add tags to improve searchability
Tags help guests find the service when searching in the app.
- Click on the Tags text box.
- Select one or more relevant keywords from the dropdown menu.
- Click Save changes.
Step 6: Add the service location on the map
This feature is useful for physical services across the property.
- Enable the Map location toggle button.
- Search for the name on Google Maps and select the correct location.
- If needed, manually drop a pin on the map.
- Click Save changes.
The location can be deactivated at any time using the toggle switch.
Preview on the guest app
As the service is created, use the Preview button at the top of the page to see how it appears in the app. This allows verifying information, descriptions, and images before going live.
Next steps
Now that the service is created, organize services into categories to improve navigation if multiple services are managed across the property. Check this article on how to organize a service using categories (link).
