How to create and use custom links

Overview

The Custom links section is from where you generate links and QR codes that direct guests to specific content within the guest app. This tool is key for promotional efforts as it helps make accessing the guest app as easy as possible. Custom links allow you to generate specific access points for different areas of the hotel. For example, you can create a link to display a QR code in the room that takes the guest directly to room service to place an order, or a QR code to put in restaurants to make a reservation, or a QR code to the activities calendar so they can book an activity. This article explains how to create and use custom links.

Before getting started

Before creating custom links, make sure you have the following:

  • Access to the CMS: My app > Promote app
  • Destination content: Know the specific page or service in the guest app you want the link to open (destination content).
  • Promotion strategy: Decide the Type and Location where each link will be placed to ensure accurate data tracking.

Step-by-step guide

Step 1: Create a custom link

  1. Navigate to the Custom links section.
  2. Click the Create button. A pop-up configuration window will appear.
  3. Choose the Type from the dropdown menu (e.g., Email, Link, QR Code, Wi-Fi).
  4. Assign a Name to the custom link.
  5. Choose the Location, which refers to the physical place in the hotel where the link will be situated (e.g., Lobby, Spa, Room).
  6. Choose the Destination content, which is the specific screen within the guest app the link will redirect to. Options include:
    ◦ A specific feature, category, or service.
    ◦ Open establishment: Redirects users to the front page of the guest app.
    ◦ Surveys: Directs users to surveys configured in Instant Feedback.
  7.  Click Create link.

Note: Selecting the correct type is important for Insights tracking. You can consult the guest app access source data in Insights > Users > Acquisition. For a user to be recorded in Acquisition, they must be accessing the guest app for the first time through the specific custom link.

Tip: As you will be creating different links, we recommend using a clear naming nomenclature for your custom links to ensure easy organization and tracking.

Step 2: Use the link or QR code

Once the custom link is created, it will appear as a new row at the bottom of the table

  • A URL link is automatically generated for every link created; this is the link you will use for promotion.
  • A QR code is generated only if you selected the QR code type. Click on the QR code image to automatically download it to your computer.

Step 3: Manage your custom links

The table in the promote app screen provides data and actions for managing your links:

  • Link information: Type, Name, Location, Destination content.
  • URL link: This is the shareable link to promote the guest app.
  • Created / Updated: These are dates showing creation and last edit.
  • Actions: You can edit, copy, or delete each custom link.

Note: If you click Edit and change the Destination content, any previously printed QR codes and shared links will automatically redirect to the new content you have chosen.

Next steps

Now that you have created and shared your custom links, the next step is to understand how they are performing. To obtain data to see which links work best and which ones guests use the most, go to the Insights > Users > Acquisition.
